Unlike the boiler, the instantaneous water heater is capable of immediately delivering hot water of the required temperature, and it will heat exactly as much as you used. Fuel is used sparingly. The procedure for installing a gas column or replacing an old device is not easy - you need to develop a project, coordinate it with a gas supplier and pay for the connection service performed by trained personnel. It is allowed to install household gas-powered equipment on their own, subject to compliance with the requirements of standards and fire safety rules.
Clarification. To put a heater and connect to the water supply - you can, crash into a gas pipe - you can not. The question is solved as follows: after agreeing on the project documentation, a company specialist checks the correct installation of the column, then connects the device to the gas pipeline.
Installation requirements
Before moving on to the specifics, we will give some recommendations on how to properly connect the column to the gas supply network:
- All issues associated with connecting a new device are resolved through the subscription department of the company - the fuel supplier. Unauthorized tapping into the pipe is prohibited, such actions are punishable by a fine. The monitoring service will easily detect a violation during the annual inspection of equipment and chimneys.
- Before installing the column, submit an application to the gas office, attaching the necessary documents - a copy of the passport, certificate of ownership, technical passport of a private house (with a layout).
- In order to get permission to join the pipeline, you need to make a project of internal gas networks with the binding of gas-using equipment. Contact the technical department or a third-party design organization. Provide a passport for the purchased speaker and technical specifications for the connection.
- Having on hand the diagrams and drawings, proceed with the installation of the unit.
- When you need to replace the water heater, also contact the company - supplier with the passport of the new device. Its name and parameters are entered into the project instead of the old device.
Tip. If in a private house there is already gas equipment, for example, a heating boiler or stove, you probably have a project with a layout of these devices. When contacting the supplier for permission, provide the specified documentation - developing new drawings is more expensive than making changes to existing ones.
It is better to install a hot water column according to the project, but the preparation of documentation takes time. Do this: coordinate with the design engineer the location of the device and the method of connection, then start installation and piping with water supply. We will show you how to comply with the rules and requirements of building codes.
Features of installing speakers in the apartment
Recommendation No. 1: if you live in an apartment building, do not purchase a water heater until you consult with a gas service specialist. The essence of the problem:
- removal of combustion products is allowed only through the chimney channel;
- in most Soviet-built multi-story buildings, ventilation shafts are provided where a gas duct cannot be connected, there are no special channels;
- the withdrawal of a coaxial pipe from a modern turbo column through an external wall is often considered as a violation of the integrity of the supporting building structures, therefore it is not allowed.
The solution to the problem depends entirely on the controlling organization.They will definitely not allow to throw combustion products into the exhaust ventilation shaft, there are 2 options left - a turbocharged column or an electric boiler. It will be possible to coordinate the laying of the coaxial chimney - buy a flow heater, otherwise put an accumulation tank.
An important point. If the design documentation of the apartment building does not provide for the installation of gas columns, then the legislation refers these works to the reconstruction of living rooms. You will have to visit the city administration and get permission for reconstruction.
Room for a flow heater
According to current standards, gas water heaters cannot be placed inside living rooms - bedrooms, living rooms, children's rooms. In which rooms is the installation allowed:
- kitchen;
- furnace - internal or attached to the building;
- another technical room with one external wall and a window, including - ground floor, basement;
- corridor - as a last resort, when the above options are not available.
An important condition. The room where the water heater is planned to be installed should border the external wall, where a light opening of certain sizes is provided. In the event of a gas leak and ignition, the blast wave will go outside, breaking the glazing, the partitions will remain intact. The calculation of the window area is simple: 1 m³ of the room corresponds to 0.03 m² of translucent construction.
It is not allowed to install a column in bathrooms and bathrooms (requirement of clause 7.6 of SP 62.13330.2011). There are no external windows, plus not enough hood, limited to a small section of the ventilation shaft.
In addition, humid air enters the burner, condensate is released in the combustion chamber, and excess fuel is consumed to evaporate water. There is no need to talk about the long-term and economical operation of a home heater.
We list the requirements for the dimensions of the room:
- minimum permissible volume - 7.5 m³;
- height to overlap - 2 m;
- window area (transparent part) - 0.03 m² per cubic meter of volume.
Fire and technological indentation
According to fire safety rules, a gas heater must be attached to a wall built or finished with non-combustible material. If the requirement cannot be observed, for example, in a wooden house, the partition is protected from exposure to heat and flame. Between the column body and the wall, any of the following materials is laid:
- roofing steel 0.7 ... 1 mm;
- minerite plate up to 1 cm thick;
- basalt cardboard;
- sheet asbestos (3 mm).
Note. Asbestos products emit harmful dust, therefore it is prohibited for use inside living rooms. It is permissible to use the material in the boiler room, but not in the kitchen.
The non-combustible gasket between the column and the wall made of wood should extend outside the case to a distance of 100 mm, as is done in the photo. The top outlet (above the unit) is 70 cm.
Minimum spacing from the water heater to the nearest walls, cabinets and other equipment:
- on the sides - 15 cm;
- bottom - 300 mm;
- on top - 450 mm;
- in front - at least 1 m;
- the horizontal distance from the protruding parts of the apparatus to the gas stove is 10 cm;
- the same, to the vertical part of the chimney - 3 m.
Tip. The column should be pushed as far as possible from the stove, where fats are released during cooking, eventually covering all surfaces of the heater.
Note that in the video the column is suspended incorrectly - the unit is located in the bathroom, too close to the left wall. The master on the video gives the correct information on the location of the household appliance, but is clearly mistaken regarding the requirements for the chimney (the permissible number of elbows is 3).
Ventilation and venting
SNiP puts forward an unambiguous requirement for the room where gas-powered devices are located, 3-fold air exchange plus combustion air. Let us explain: the amount of extract from the kitchen with a column should be 3 volumes of this room for an hour.The flow rate of air burned with the burner fuel is added to three times the inflow.
How to organize ventilation:
- Exhaust air is taken by a mine with natural draft (usually located inside the wall between the kitchen and the bathroom, as shown in the layout). If there is no ready channel in a country house, you will have to bring a separate pipe to the street.
- Supply air enters the furnace or kitchen from other rooms, passing under the sash of the interior door. If the lower narthex is too dense or a small gap is made, a decorative transfer grill cuts into the door leaf.
- The flow of fresh air into the remaining rooms is organized in various ways.
- The kitchen window should open - for ventilation in the event of gas contamination.
Clarification. If the column is located in a furnace, where a gas boiler is already operating, an additional supply to combustion must be provided.
The atmospheric column (open combustion chamber) is connected to the chimney duct by a galvanized, enameled or stainless steel pipe with a thickness of 0.5 mm or more. Mounting a cheap and thin aluminum corrugation is unacceptable.
When installing a chimney, observe the following rules:
- the diameter of the channel is not less than the cross section of the outlet pipe of the column;
- the length of the vertical section connected to the heater is at least 25 cm (with a ceiling height of up to 2.7 m);
- if the overlap height is more than 2.7 m, the acceleration section increases to 0.5 m;
- the clearance between the non-combustible wall and the pipe is 5 cm;
- partitions of combustible materials are closed with sheets of metal or minerite, indent to the gas duct - 100 mm;
- maximum total length of connecting sections - 3 m;
- the number of turns of the chimney by 90 ° - no more than three.
If the cross section of the smoke shaft allows you to connect 2 units - a boiler and a water heater, place the insets at a distance of 750 mm (an example is shown in the photo). Read the installation details here: how to install a flue gas pipe of an atmospheric and pressurized column.
Gas pipeline
It is likely that you will undertake the laying of a gas pipe inside the building. It is important to comply with the requirements of the Code of Rules 62.13330.2011 "Gas distribution systems":
- insertion into the trunk is done after the counter;
- steel or special polymer pipes for natural gas or LPG are used;
- to cut off the column in the event of an accident or repair, a crane is placed on the gas pipeline;
- the connections are mounted in one piece, it is better to conduct the pipe in an open way, although it is allowed to lay the walls in the groove (groove);
- at the intersection of building structures, a case of the appropriate material (steel, plastic) is provided for the pipeline.
Mounting and wiring instructions
Before mounting and connecting the speaker with your own hands, buy 3 ball valves - one gas, 2 water taps plus connectors with a ring washer - American. The diameter of the fittings is ½ ”(DN15). Fasteners are supplied with the heater.
Recommendation. If there is no filter at the cold water inlet, purchase a sump and place it in front of the inlet of the device.
How to install the column yourself:
- Place the heater against the wall in the selected place, mark the outline of the housing. After measuring the distance to the attachment points, drill holes. Mount the bracket or hooks (the way of suspension depends on the model of the unit).
- Attach a water heater, install a chimney according to the rules. Enter the round channel into the brick shaft using an adapter, seal the joint with an asbestos cord.
- Screw the Americans to the fittings of the device, then the taps. Be careful not to confuse the gas pipe with the water pipe.
- Connect the hot and cold water supply, open the common valve and thus check the joints for leaks.If there are no leaks, connect the gas pipe by pre-lubricating the gasket with solid oil.
- Test the gas line for permeability - open the shut-off valve and wash the connections with a sponge. Bubbles will appear at the leak.
Starting and checking the heating of water in the domestic hot water is done according to the manufacturer’s instructions, but only after the device is put into operation by a representative of the supplier organization. When it is required to replace the apparatus, the procedure begins with dismantling, then the work is carried out in the same manner.
Comment. It is allowed to supply water and gas to the apparatus with flexible hoses of no more than 2.5 m in length. But with such a connection scheme, the number of joints increases, it is better to connect the pipes to the heater directly, through taps and American ones.
Installation of a smokeless (turbocharged) version of the column with automatic ignition differs in the way the gas duct is laid - horizontally through the wall to the outside. The double-walled coaxial pipe is placed with a slight slope towards the street so that condensation forms. The device must be connected to the mains and grounded - mount a socket nearby, powered through an 8 A circuit breaker, as shown in the diagram.
